Heaven to Betsy BetsyTacy Maud Hart Lovelace Vera Neville Books

This is the fifth book in the Betsy-Tacy series, which chronicles the childhood through young adulthood of Betsy, Tacy, and their friends and neighbors in the late 19th century-early 20th century. It mirrors the author's childhood, and is delightfully old fashioned while remaining interesting and well written. This book opens in Betsy's freshman year in high school, narrating the studies, boys, parties, and church adventures of all the friends, siblings, and families of the growing town they live in. I plan to read it to my granddaughter when she is old enough.

Heaven to Betsy BetsyTacy Maud Hart Lovelace Vera Neville Books Reviews

Disclaimer this is written by Marie, not Frank.

I started this book expecting to really like it as I did the first four books and Winona's Pony Cart, (all of which I will be sharing with my children).

I was a bit surprised that Betsy, at 14, turned into such a boy crazy, flighty girl. As I continued reading little things begin to bother me such as why her parents would allow their daughters to attend a different church that they (the parents) weren't comfortable with just so they could be in the choir, the girls really gave no reason why they wanted to switch churches (I assume it was only because they were in the choir and they liked the youth group), the chapter after Betsy tells Julia that their father asked her about getting baptized, (in a church she no longer attends) her parents buy her a Ouija board for Christmas. It wouldn't have been such a big deal, except that going to church seems to be such an important part of this family's life, though not living what they profess to believe. Their mother also seems to be proud that her daughters string a bunch of boys along.

That is when I decided to just stick to the first four books.
I've been part of Betsy and Tacy's world since I was about six years old and just discovering Deep Valley. I've read all the books several times since then, and when it comes time to take them back to my tiny local library, I actually feel like I'm losing a friend! Betsy, Tacy, Tib, Carney, Bonnie, Tony, Cab, Winona, and the rest of the Crowd are all part of my life, it seems. . .and don't even start me on Joe!
I've acquired the first four books in the series, and I'm now on a hunt for older versions of the high school books. I simply can't let go of the Deep Valley Crowd!
(Oh, and it may be just me, but was anyone else unbearably sad when the Ray family moved to Minneapolis?)
This was the first book in the series that I read. When I discovered that I started at the beginning and read them all. I have read them all many, many times. Far better and more enjoyable than modern fiction.
Great book, but the cover was different than the one posted--we were trying to match it with our collection, so that was disappointing.
Much better condition than I thought it would be
Love the Betsy-Tacy books! I never read them when I was a kid. They were before my time! But I'm making up for that now.
Loved it! I was thrilled to be able to find the series and buy them! I bought them just for my book collection because I LOVED THE WHOLE SERIES AS A KID!!!
